PLANT SOMETHING NATIVE
Start with one Florida-native flower, shrub, grass, or tree. Native plants support wildlife and can require less water and fewer landscape chemicals.
A SIMPLE CHECKLIST FOR CLEANER WATER AND A HEALTHIER FLORIDA
The 12 Things You Can Do checklist is inspired by the 12 themes of our Imagine Florida campaign. Each one is a simple action you can take at home, in your yard, on the water, or around our community to help protect the place we call home.
You don't have to do everything at once. Start with one, check it off, and keep going. Small actions add up when we all do our part.

Plant a native tree and protect the trees, mangroves, and natural canopy already around us. Healthy trees mean healthy habitat.
Observe wildlife from a respectful distance and protect the places they depend on for food, shelter, nesting, and survival.
Choose reusable bottles, bags, and other everyday items whenever you can. Use less, reuse more, and keep plastic out of our water.
Prepare your home and yard before hurricane season. Secure loose items, protect chemicals from flooding, and keep drainage areas clear.
Reduce unnecessary pesticides and herbicides. What we put on the land can eventually make its way into our water.
Use native plants, mulch, rain gardens, and other natural areas to help rainfall soak into the ground instead of becoming runoff.
Protect seagrass while boating. Stay in marked channels, watch your depth, and avoid damaging shallow grass beds.
Use a rain barrel, redirect a downspout, or create a rain garden to capture rainfall and put it to good use.
Fix leaks, turn off the tap, take shorter showers, run full loads, and be thoughtful about outdoor watering.
Buy less, choose well, repair, refill, reuse, repurpose, and donate whenever possible.
Take your trash and belongings with you, pick up litter when you see it, and respect our beaches, waterways, wildlife, and natural areas.
